About Nunivaat

Objective
The objective of the Nunivaat database is to establish a permanent, public and independent databank concerning the socioeconomic situation of Nunavik.

Sources
Nunivaat data comes from Statistics Canada, the Institut de la statistique du Québec as well as various government databanks. Nunivaat also comprises data from special studies, most of which were carried out under the Nunivaat program. These data is accessible on the statistics page. The full studies are available on the publications page.

Design
The Nunivaat database is a portal that takes users directly to the table they are looking for, whether it is located on the web site of a statistics agency or in the Nunivaat database. A map and a list of easy-to-use indicators help users do research.

Limitations
Nunivaat is updated periodically to contain, wherever possible, the most recent data available. While Nunivaat brings together data on a wide range of socioeconomic realities of Nunavik, it does not cover all possible aspects. Nunivaat is not responsible for the policies and practices of statistics agencies, the errors in the tables originating from these agencies, or the use made of such tables. Users are asked to consult the methodology notes which are directly accessible via hyperlinks found in the tables and on the metadata page.

Partners
Nunivaat was created by the Canada Research Chair on Comparative Aboriginal Condition of Université Laval, in collaboration with the Kativik Regional Government and the Louis-Edmond-Hamelin Chair for Northern Research in Social Sciences. The Nunivaat database is located at the Faculté des sciences sociales, Université Laval, Québec, Canada. Groupe DSI is responsible for the computer design of Nunivaat.

Required Tools
Most of the tables are available in a PDF format. In order to consult them Adobe Acrobat Reader must be installed. To import the tables using copy / paste operation to Microsoft Excel, Adobe Acrobat Standard will give the best results. This site is available in any screen resolution, although the design is optimized for a 1024x768 setting.
