Nunavik Statistics Program

Crime statistics for 2025 are now available. They cover various aspects of crime in Nunavik, including crimes against persons, crimes against property, arrests and detentions, seizures, smuggling, and police interventions. The annual update of these statistics is made possible thanks to the collaboration of the Nunavik Police Service (NPS). 

In 2024, Statistics Canada introduced a new tool to measure the crime rate: the Crime Severity Index (CSI). This index tracks year-over-year changes in the severity of crimes in Canada. It complements the crime rate, which only measures the number of crimes reported to police per 100,000 population. This index is now available for Nunavik and can be accessed here.

Statistics Canada has updated the life expectancy at birth data for Indigenous population in Canada, including Inuit people living in the province of Quebec.  The most recent data covers the periods 2006-2001, 2011-2016 and  2016–2021. The data can be viewed here.

Statistics Canada is currently hiring enumerators and crew leaders for the 2026 Census in select northern and remote communities. The primary responsibility of enumerators is to collect completed census questionnaires from households. As for the crew leaders, they are responsible for all activities related to the collection of completed census questionnaires in their assigned area. The employment period runs from May 2026 to July 2026, depending on the position and location. Additional information and instructions to apply are available at census.gc.ca/jobs-north.
